Aggreko, the global provider of temporary power and temperature control services, is providing a standalone, baseload power supply for the operation of Gem Diamonds’ Ghaghoo diamond mine in Botswana. Located in a remote area approximately 300 km north of the capital Gaborone, the Ghaghoo project required an independent power supply from the outset. In 2011 Aggreko began supplying power to the first camp on the site, prior to construction of the main camp and the mine itself.
Aggreko’s installation – now at 4.5 MW – is the sole power supply to the main camp and supports all construction activities within the project. “We chose to work with Aggreko based on their strong reputation in powering African mining operations,” commented Howard Marsden, Operations Manager, Gem Diamonds Botswana. “With our power requirements taken care of by Aggreko, we can concentrate on our core activities of developing the Ghaghoo asset secure in the knowledge that our power is in expert hands.”
“Aggreko has significant experience in providing full-lifecycle power solutions to mining operations all over the world,” commented Martin Foster, Head of Local Business, Aggreko Southern and East Africa. “Our solutions give mining customers high quality and highly dependable power along with the flexibility of a solution which grows seamlessly in line with increasing power demands.”
