Rio and Terex sign global heavy mobile equipment agreement

Posted on 17 Aug 2009

Mining company, Rio Tinto has signed a global heavy mobile equipment (HME) supply agreement with, global manufacturer, Terex Mining. This will provide a basis for continued capital equipment sales, simplifying the procurement process for both companies. The agreement includes drills, hydraulic excavators and trucks. Terex has been a part of Rio Tinto’s operations in Australia and North America for more than 10 years, with Rio forecasting future demand for Terex® products. This will allow those needs to be met and provides all Rio Tinto sites with another choice of HME supply.

“To reach such an agreement with one of the world’s largest and most diverse mining companies signifies a confidence in the quality of Terex products, customer support and our company as a whole,” says Harry Bussmann, Vice President of Terex Mining.

“The HME agreement is a culmination of time and effort of all parties concerned,” says Eric Nielsen, President of Terex Materials Processing and Mining. “We’re excited to continue our successful partnership with Rio Tinto and see our equipment at work at the company’s sites around the world.”

Scott Lawson, Chairman of Rio Tinto’s Heavy Mobile Equipment Directorate, said, “We are pleased to have reached a long-term agreement with Terex, particularly to have Terex drill rigs under a contractual arrangement, given our large installed fleet and future demands in Australia.”
