EMI Global, an international fleet management and technology integrator and N C Machinery have teamed together to install an automatic start/stop technology, named Temp-A-Start on a Caterpillar 785D haul truck for a mining customer in Alaska, completing the installation in February 2013. EMI have stated that this is the first Temp-A-Start installation of its kind in the mining industry on a machine that is equipped with an air-start system. The start/stop technology was previously introduced to the Alaskan construction, oil, gas and mining industries in 2005.
The technology has been designed to reduce idle times on the machinery and estimated to save machinery operators in Prudhoe Bay, AK “as much as $560,000 during a single 10-hour shift, solely by reducing idle times.” according to an article published in the Alaska Business magazine in November, 2007.
