The 6th International Flotation Symposium (Flotation ’13), organised by MEI, is on track to be the biggest event in the series. The exhibition has already sold out 6 months prior to the event, which will take place in Cape Town. The 18 booths have been take up by companies including FLSmidth, Outotec, Cytec and Tenova Delkor and there has been a strong interest for sponsoring this year’s event, with a total of 16 sponsers so far.
Flotation ’13 features 2 discrete symposia. The first named ‘Flotation Fundamentals: Physics and Chemistry, covering the fundamental aspects of flotation that are being researched and the associated new machines being developed. This two day symposium (November 18-19) will focus on fundamental reagent and flotation chemsitry, bubbles, froths, bubble-particle interactions, flotation cell hydrodynamics, kinetics and scale ups. Including a keynote lecture from Prof. Kari Heiskanen, of Aalto University, Finland titled “Flotation research – does advancement require a paradigm shift?”
The second aspect of Flotation ’13 concerns flotation applications and plant practice. This two day symposium (November 20-21) focuses on the application of flotation and includes sessions on plant operations, flotation circuits, flotation machine developments, metallic, non-metallic and coal flotations and environmental considerations. The keynote lecture will be given by Dr. Dariusz Lelinski, Global Flotation Technology Manager, FLSmidth named “True value added in flotation.”
