Bergen Engines becomes part of the Tognum Group

Posted on 2 Jul 2013

Bergen Engines AS, the Norwegian engine manufacturer, has become part of the Tognum Group, following the acquisition of Tognum AG by a joint venture of Rolls-Royce and Daimler AG. As a result the former Rolls-Royce subsidiary Bergen Engines was merged into the Tognum Group, which already owns MTU, the major mining engine supplier. This adds medium-speed diesel and gas engines with power outputs up to 10 MW to Tognum’s engine portfolio. Bergen has previously supplied engines for mine power, including eight gas engines and five diesel engines to provide 80 MW of power for pumping, refining and ancillary services at the Lukoil diamond mine in the Arkhangelsk region of Russia.

John Paterson, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Tognum AG said: “By formally contributing Bergen Engines AS to Tognum, we are starting the next phase of our joint activities. This is an important milestone and positive for both customers and employees as this enables us to combine the medium- and high-speed portfolios under one roof.” Dr Ulrich Dohle, who takes over as Tognum CEO commented: “The integration of Bergen Engines is a further step in Tognum’s growth strategy and in leveraging synergies.” Finally, Bergen Engines President John Knudsen said: “Cooperation so far has been very promising, and exchanging know how and resources already have shown the many benefits. We look forward to building on this in our new set-up.”
