The Association of British Mining Equipment Companies (ABMEC) has appointed Paul Briggs, Business Director of Davis Derby, as Vice President. The role demonstrates a large commitment to the association and its membership, with a two year stint followed by election to the President’s position for a further two years. Briggs will be supporting and working closely with the recently elected President, Martin Cain, and Chief Executive Officer at Dosco.
Following his early electrical engineering training with the National Coal Board, in 1982 Briggs was appointed the youngest Charge Engineer in Derbyshire followed by a further progression as the Systems Engineer with responsibility for supervisory monitoring and controls.
Joining Davis Derby in 1989, he further advanced his career with this long established leader in the field of communications, signalling and control systems, and played a key role in the introduction and development of PLC type controls for mines. Headquartered in Derby, the company is a long established exporter and today has subsidiaries in Russia and Kazakhstan together with representation throughout the world coal mining industry.
ABMEC stated that along with all of the membership, Briggs recognises that “our continuing success depends on further advances in product development and service for this massive global industry at the same time as the power generators making the necessary progress in clean coal technology.”
