Keliber’s lithium carbonate production process development project, LIKEPRO (sustainable processing of the lithium ore), was approved into the Tekes (the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation) Green Mining program. Keliber, together with its partners, has already developed process suitable for lithium carbonate production. The aim of the LIKEPRO development project is to improve the energy efficiency of the process and reduce the amount of chemicals used in the process. Target is to study and implement even more sustainable production process and value chain than planned before.The development project will be carried out mainly between the autumn of 2013 and spring 2014. CEO Olle Sirén comments: “Tekes Green Mining program with its objectives match perfectly with Keliber’s stage of development and targets. It’s good news for Keliber to be a part of the Green Mining program and to be able to conduct the important research and development tasks together with its partners in the program. The support from the Tekes enables Keliber to improve both the enrichment and leaching stages of our process.”
