The 4th International Techgormet Conference is being held on November 14-15 2013 in St Petersburg, Russia, at the National Mineral Resources University (Gorny University). The conference, attended by IM in 2012, is a major annual event to demonstrate and discuss new technologies in the mining industry and represents a unique opportunity for suppliers of equipment and service to network with their Russian counterparts and the Russian mining groups themselves. The key speakers from mining companies are the leading technical managers from Norilsk Nickel, SUEK, Alrosa, Bogatyr Komir (Kazakhstan), Eurocement Group, Polymetal, Polyus Gold International and others.
The 2013 theme is “Ways to increase technology efficiency in mineral resources development” and brings together leading Russian and international experts from the mining community, including representatives from the supervisory agency RosTekhNadzor and other related governmental agencies, major mining companies, mining equipment designers and IT suppliers, research institutions and educational establishments.
The two day conference comprises three technical sessions on open pit mining, underground mining, and mineral resources / mineral beneficiation, as well as five workshops on topics such as the use of geo-information systems and new technologies for geological exploration, automation and dispatch systems for mining equipment, mining consulting and engineering. The organisers say that the conference will focus on “practical experience related to the implementation of engineering, technology, management, information and telecommunication solutions that provide operational efficiency in the main processes in mining operations as well as investment returns that can be used to help develop new mineral fields and operate existing ones.”
This year, the conference for the first time will use video conferencing to present speeches. George Poropat, Research Group Leader, Mine Environment Imaging from the CSIRO Institute in Australia and one of the developers of the Sirovision technology, will conduct a remote presentation on some of the advanced mining technologies. Sirovision uses a new method of visualisation and processing of data for surface photogrammetry. Adam Mirek, Main Engineer for Geophysics of the Institute of Innovative Technologies (EMAG) in Poland will talk about its underground mining robot that can be used in rescue work, to measure methane concentrations and transmit photo and video images. This year the conference will also have a mini exhibition for which the official partners are General Electric, Dassault Systèmes GEOVIA RUS, Sandvik, and NAVGEOKOM (Leica Geosystems).
