Lucapa Diamond Co has recovered a 32.2 ct, Type 2A diamond from its Lulo Concession in Angola. The D colour diamond was recovered from the BLK_19 bulk sample adjacent to the BLK_06 site, approximately 1,600 m southeast of the priority Se251 kimberlite pipe. The diamond measured 32 x 10 x 8 mm and is the largest recovered by Lucapa through the new Dense Media Separation (DMS) plant which the company commissioned in November 2013 and is the fourth largest diamond recovered at Lulo to date.
Lucapa Diamond is the operator of the 3,000 km2 Lulo Diamond Concession in Angola’s Lunda Norte Province. It is situated about 750 km from Angola’s capital city of Luanda and ~150km from Catoca, which is ranked the third biggest kimberlite diamond mine in the world.
A systematic four-year exploration program at Lulo has already yielded rare Type 2A alluvial diamonds of up to 131.4 ct.
Lucapa is now drill testing and excavating priority kimberlite targets at Lulo to locate the source, or sources, of the rare alluvial diamonds being recovered from within the Lulo concession.
