Sandvik’s “purpose-matched” breakers launched at Bauma

Posted on 22 Apr 2010

Sandvik has unveiled two new breaker models built for power, productivity and usability. The 2,350 kg BR3288 and 3,380 kg BR4099 are suitable for carriers in the 24 to 54 t operating weight class and are designed around a new operating principle that can be matched to specific applications. They benefit from a number of class-leading features including improved hydraulic efficiency and a vibration dampened tierods (VIDAT) system to decrease downtime.

The new operating principle provides flexibility – stroke length, blow energy and Idle Blow Protector can all be modified to allow breakers to be matched to individual carriers and applications. The hydraulic efficiency is improved by bigger impact energy and high blow frequency. VIDAT increases reliability and minimises downtime while the sealing system, enhanced lubrication and longer service periods help reduce operating costs.

The new operating principle uses a mode selector located on the breaker, with the Idle Blow Protector working in all modes. High energy mode uses a lower blow frequency for optimum breaking power in hard materials, such as granite and reinforced concrete foundations; while a high frequency mode delivers a higher blow rate and reduced impact energy to break softer materials, such as limestone.

Both breakers have simplified and more robust hydraulics featuring less valves and greater back-pressure tolerance. The robust front head is produced using new manufacturing techniques and features fewer holes to relieve stress. The tool-retaining pins are locked by simple, reliable rubber rings, while the surface of the lower tool bushing has been specifically designed to provide longer tool life. To further extend the working life of both breakers, they are offered with three greasing options: a centralised manual option, carrier-mounted Ramlube I automatic greasing, or Ramlube II, which uses a cartridge mounted on the breaker to automatically deliver optimum levels of lubrication for greater wear protection and a longer operating life.

The two new models have been launched at Bauma 2010, this week in Munich. The BR3288 will be displayed on stand F8 804A/805 A hosted by local German dealer Nagel Group.
