Established by the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Inc. (SME) in 2008, OneMine® is a collaborative effort among multiple international mining-related societies to place the world’s most comprehensive collection of mining and minerals based research into one easy-to-navigate location. More than 1.8 million searchable pages are available to the general public.
OneMine serves as a centralised electronic database containing mining-related research material including technical papers, conference papers and articles produced by organizations throughout the world. Currently, OneMine contains more than 1,813,800 available pages in 105,420 searchable documents.
“Despite being leaders in their respective fields, many mining and minerals societies and organisations are unable to provide the financial and technological commitment to support robust web-based access to their journals and technical papers,” said SME Executive Director David L. Kanagy. “OneMine’s web presence enables participating societies to keep their publications viable while meeting the needs of both their members and the library market.”
Societies around the globe that contribute documents to OneMine include:
- AIME – The American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers
- AusIMM – The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy
- DFI – Deep Foundations Institute
- IMMS – International Marine Minerals Society
- NIOSH – National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
- SAIMM – The Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy
- SME – The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Inc.
- TMS – The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society
Through OneMine’s marketing and consortium sales around the world, societies can introduce their journals to untapped institutional markets, as well as reintroduce their technical materials and journals to individuals and organizations that may have dropped the print subscription. With broad dissemination of information possible through the Internet, societies have an opportunity to expand their subscriber database, readership and influence.
The goal of OneMine is to collect the most relevant and reliable technical papers associated with mining and minerals and make them available to anyone in the world who has access to the Internet. Members of participating societies can view, download and print documents at no charge. Individual documents are available for purchase by non members on a per document basis, or through an annual subscription. www.onemine.org.
