Cape Breton University (CBU), in collaboration with its industrial partner Cape Breton Development Corporation (CBDC), invites applications for an Industrial Research Chair in Mine Water Remediation and Management. The initial period for the Chair is five years with the possibility of renewal for a second five-year period based on satisfactory performance and
continued funding. The Chair will be established in the School of Science and Technology. Depending upon the qualifications of the selected candidate, the position will carry with it a tenured or tenure-track appointment in accordance with CBU’s faculty association (CBUFA) collective agreement. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Reporting to the Dean of Research, the Chair will develop and lead, with the assistance of our industry partner, a research program that is related to mine water remediation and management.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of research excellence in an area of mine water remediation and management. Experience in research collaboration with industry is highly desirable. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a
relevant field with a focus on applied geology, hydrology, and/or civil engineering. The ideal candidate will have established connections to the International Mine Water Association as well as international experience working with both
private and public sectors on mine water issues. As much of the Chair’s position will involve supervising undergraduate, masters, Ph.D. candidates, and post doctoral students, it is necessary for the successful applicant to have experience and success in supervising students, particularly at the graduate level.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership in the development of the application to the Natural Sciences and Engineering Council (NSERC) Industrial Research Chair program. The establishment of the Chair and the appointment to the position are contingent upon final budget approval.
