Outotec snares €100 million contract

Posted on 6 Aug 2007

Outotec will supply Dubai Aluminium Company with a new green anode plant and spent anode crushing facility for their aluminium smelter in Abu Dhabi in a deal worth about €100 million.

Outotec’s scope of delivery covers the engineering, supply and installation of a new green anode plant including two anode production lines, a crushing plant for spent anodes and ancillary facilities.

The new plant will use innovative regenerative thermal oxidisation technology for efficient pitch fume treatment. The plant is designed for the annual production of 500,000 t of green anodes and the commissioning of the first production line is scheduled for June 2009.

Outotec President and CEO Tapani Järvinen said Aluminium consumption was growing fast and customers were expecting it to double by 2020. Therefore, aluminium producers were continually increasing capacity in order to meet the surging demand.

“The Middle East is attracting aluminium producers because the region offers competitively priced energy for the needs of highly energy-intensive aluminium production. Thanks to our broad technology portfolio, the Middle East offers a lot of possibilities for Outotec and we see many new aluminium and other prospects in the area,” he said.
