ICMM has revealed two publications available for immediate download, a summary version of ICMM’s Good Practice Guidance on Health Impact Assessment, which provides essential HIA information for mining companies, and a Spanish language version of ICMM’s mapping in country partnerships, which lays the groundwork for Mining: Partnerships for Development. and unveils a solid base of existing partnerships to encourage companies, and others, to replicate and scale up these partnerships across their operations and across mining regions.
The Good Practice Guidance on Health Impact Assessment presents the concept of health impact assessment (HIA) and provides an introduction to how mining companies can evaluate the health and well-being effects mining operations have on the local communities in which they operate. It gives an overview of the steps taken during the HIA process, including the integration of environmental and social impact assessments.
Mapping in country partnerships highlights the range of multi-stakeholder partnerships that already exist amongst ICMM members. It maps partnerships across the six priority partnership themes of the Mining: Partnerships for Development initiative: poverty reduction; revenue management; regional development planning; local content; social investment; and dispute resolution.
