The Institute of Mining Engineering I of RWTH Aachen University has announced the next SDIMI 2011: Sustainable Development in the Minerals Industry conference and call for abstracts of papers from intending authors for consideration in the conference program. As the mining industry worldwide recovers from the economic crisis, the questions of how the industry will meet the demands of the triple bottom line are in focus more than ever. Good operating practice, latest research results as well as conclusive opinions of stakeholders will be presented within the conference to enhance information and knowledge of the conference participants.
A strong representation of sustainability practitioners and researchers from the international minerals industry is expected, as well as research organisations and governmental representatives. The conference program of SDIMI 2011 will cover a large range of topics:
• Practicing sustainability – engineering solutions for a sustainable development, for instance, case studies, best practice of sustainable development, health and safety solutions,
• Sustainable supply chains such as primary resources supply chains, recycling & renewables, stakeholder views on sustainable supply chain management, management of greenhouse gas,
• Mineral resources policies and governance including emerging economies, local communities & good governance,
• Natural resources management and critical primary resources
• Sustainability reporting, advances in LCA & SDI
• Social sustainability, for instance, risk management, capacity building and human resources as well as social responsibility: contributions to development & environmental performance.
The Institute invite authors wishing to present papers at SDIMI 2011 to submit an abstract not exceeding 400 words in English by October 5, 2010 for consideration.
