In a sure sign that an area is ‘hot’ China is showing interest in the Nordic region – for exploration and development projects and for producing mines.

Swedish agencies, for example, are now helping Chinese groups find interesting investment projects, according to a June report in Dagens industri. Anders Eliasson Business Area Manager at the Invest in Sweden agency explained that the agency was trying to find investments that would include refining. “We have a vision to increase the refinement level in Sweden which means that the investments not only concern mining, but we are happy with that too”, he said.

An initial study was to be the base for contact with Chinese investors and was to be ready in September. The signals about this interest “are coming from government,” Per-Erik Sandlund, General Manager for the agency explained.
