3D Laser Mapping SiteMonitorSV used to deliver accurate stockpile survey results at Kolomela

Posted on 18 Mar 2015

The 3D Laser Mapping automated stockpile volume management solution, SiteMonitorSV, has been used to deliver reliable and accurate results for the Kolomela mine, part of the Kumba Iron Ore group in South Africa. Fully customisable, this particular solution consisted of just one laser scanning system combined with inventory management software in order to scan and calculate the mine’s Plant Buffer stockpile volumes/tonnages – with rapidly communicating sensors working together to display information via automated reports in both graphical and Excel formats, decision making is made easy with the use of SiteMonitorSV.

“Switching to a fully automated system sold by 3D Laser Mapping has simplified the process of managing the stockpile. Following the proof of concept installation, the solution proved to be a positive addition to the way we measure and collect stockpile data on Kolomela mine, and one which was suited to our specific needs. With well informed and trustworthy results, we are pleased with the advantages the product can offer,” said Jacques de Lange – Survey Manager, Kolomela.

Following a proof of concept installation period of one month, Kolomea mine chose to purchase the SiteMonitor product after ensuring it met their unique volume management requirements. Notably where the SiteMonitorSV stood out was in its durability – resisting both water and dust from the site. The hardware is IP65 rated and does not alter with the results. “The level of automation at which the SiteMonitorSV solution operates saves both time and labour costs,’ commented Nico Luus, Product Specialist for SiteMonitorSV at 3D Laser Mapping. “This enables the client to receive current and accurate information about their stockpiles at customisable frequencies.” The SiteMonitorSV solution from 3DLaser Mapping is one which combines simplicity and durability into reliable, cost effective and automated results.
