Atlas Copco has received an order from Fresnillo, Mexico valued at some $45 million – one of the largest ever for Atlas Copco’s Construction and Mining business area. The order is for underground drill rigs for production and for rock reinforcement as well as products for loading and haulage. The products will be used for new development, production and expansion of the Fresnillo silver mine in Mexico. Fresnillo is the biggest silver mine in the world.
“We are very happy that Fresnillo, for the last years, has selected Atlas Copco as one of its main suppliers. Our high quality equipment and high quality customer support positions Atlas Copco well in the world of silver mining” says Björn Rosengren, Business Area President of Atlas Copco Construction and Mining Technique.
Fresnillo Mine is a part of Fresnillo PLC in Mexico, the world’s largest primary silver producer. The order was booked in January, 2011, and deliveries will start in the second half of 2011.
Atlas Copco’s other big news is that Rosengren will be leaving the company later this year to become CEO of Finland’s Wartsila, on September 1.
