The Timken Co has promoted Matthew Eckels to chief engineer, application engineering and Steven Roman to chief engineer, product engineering. In the new role, Eckels will lead Timken’s off-highway and heavy-truck engineering resources and will identify customer needs and corresponding solutions. Made from super-clean, air-melt steel, Timken is best known in this market for supplying wheel bearings for mining trucks that offer increased load carrying capacity, debris resistance and longer bearing life.In his new role of chief engineer, product engineering, Mr Roman will be responsible for the implementation, approval and consistent use of Timken design standards; the content of Timken engineering systems; identification of future engineering system needs; and the continuous improvement of Timken’s current product designs. He was most recently group leader of product engineering and led design efforts for Timken’s tapered roller bearings and related products, including packaged wheel bearings for light and heavy-truck applications and, more recently, ultra-large bearings for the wind-energy market.
