Anglo Coal has placed a R2.9-million order with Weir Minerals Africa for the supply of ten horizontal, single and double deck screens for installation at its coal handling processing plant in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa. Delivery is planned for April 2012. Anglo Coal is a longstanding Weir Minerals Africa customer and the screens will replace older units supplied by the company that are due for replacement owing to wear and tear, as well as competitor units.
Weir Minerals Africa’s Santosh Gunpath says the screens, in various sizes from 1.8 m wide to 3.6 m wide, are being supplied with 3CR12 stainless steel deck frames and stringers for corrosion protection. They are currently in production at the company’s Alrode facility and will be supplied via Weir Minerals Africa’s Middelburg branch.
These screens are suitable for sizing applications, dense media recovery and dewatering in coal handling plants. They also serve the hard rock industry in similar applications, for example, sizing, desliming, grading and scalping.
“They are widely used in these sectors and are ideal wherever linear motion screens are required,” Gunpath says. “The screens are very robust and designed to maximise machine availability.
“Although this is well established technology, Weir Minerals Africa is committed to researching continuous improvements in design and performance with the global design centre of origin for screens located in South Africa. The results of current research will be launched to market within the next two years,” Gunpath adds.
