FLSmidth has been awarded a contract worth approximately $65 million from Vale for the supply of material handling equipment to the Port of Nacala in Mozambique. The contract comprises delivery of fifteen complete conveyor systems, including all mechanical and structural components as well as transfer towers, chutes, magnets, belt scales, a lubrication system, skirts and supports. Mozambique has large deposits of coal and the material handling equipment to be supplied by FLSmidth will provide Vale with enhanced handling and export facilities for its coal operations in the country.
“The winning of this order reflects the good working relationship that exists between Vale and FLSmidth. We have previously delivered Materials Handling equipment for Vale’s Moatize coal mine in Mozambique and the positive results have paved the way for our continued collaboration”, Group CEO Jorgen Huno Rasmussen commented. Nacala is expected to have a total capacity of 25 Mt of coal, including the planned terminal exclusively for coal. Vale has said it plans to spend $4.4 billion to build the terminal and a 912 km railway line connecting the coal mine with the port.
