Downer first to get Komatsu 830E-5 truck in Australia

Posted on 24 Jun 2020

Contract miner Downer Group says it is investing in Western Australia’s resources sector, with five of Komatsu’s new generation 830E-5 mining trucks.

Downer is the first to purchase this model in Australia, with the new fleet of trucks headed to the Gruyere gold mine (Gold Road 50%/Gold Fields 50%) in the north-eastern gold fields.

The company states: “We are pleased to be extending our partnership with Komatsu and providing an Australian-first to our customer.”

Komatsu launched the model in Australia back in March 2020. The 830E-5 230 t capacity truck is powered by a Cummins QSK60 diesel engine rated at a standard 2,500 hp (gross), and with a 2,700 hp option for greater speed on grade, it incorporates the latest engine and drive system technology, as well as capacity and availability improvements.
