Goodyear says it is bringing new innovation to the mining sector with the launch of the Goodyear Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Heavy Duty in North America. Originally launched in Europe in 2018, the TPMS Heavy Duty is a data-based solution that enables real-time monitoring of tyre performance that, in combination with Goodyear premium tyres and services, will it says help OTR fleets optimise tyre performance, reduce downtime and improve total cost of ownership.
The company told IM: “Tyre-fitted sensors collect and monitor tyre pressure and temperature data in real-time to detect under-inflated tyres, air leaks and other related conditions. The sensor communicates with a battery powered router on the vehicle, which continuously records data. Goodyear G-Predict technology analyses this data and flags potential issues, instantly alerting fleet operators of the data via email, Goodyear’s web-based portal and the Goodyear drive and fleet manager apps.
Implementing and leveraging what Goodyear calls its ‘Total Solution’ of trusted products, reliable services, and tyre management solutions,” the company says mine sites have seen up to 40% increases in hours to removal, driving down their cost per tonne.
On the COVID-19 pandemic, the tyre major says many mines are experiencing shutdowns or temporary closings, resulting in an impact on the demand for mining tyres. “However, the supply of mining tires remains stable as manufacturers adjust production levels to the current demand.”
