Digital monitoring of key parameters is being carried out on five BELAZ 240 t 7531 series dump trucks at EVRAZ-owned Kachkanarsky GOK iron ore mine. Terminals and sensors record information about important of the machines: fuel consumption, tyre pressure, engine temperature, gas pedal position. The “digital advisor” system analyses the data and advises the operator on the optimal driving style and speed setting to save fuel and increase tyre life.
Terrain-referenced data is fed to a single server to identify fuel consumption patterns at each point in the open pit. Depending on this, the speed mode and the amount of fuel for the machine used in a given place are selected. The new system is expected to increase tyre life by 3% and save at least 5% in fuel costs. The expected economic saving is RUB15 million rubles per year. The first results of the project will be announced in October. In the case of high efficiency improvements, the experience will be replicated at other EVRAZ enterprises.
