Liebherr reports dynamic year for mining business

li.jpgLiebherr Group reports that it was able to increase its turnover in the 2011 business year by €747 million or 9.8% to €8,334 million. Almost all the Group’s divisions contributed to this growth but turnover from construction machinery and mining equipment recorded an above-average increase. In these product areas, Liebherr boosted turnover by €642.4 million or 13.5 %, thereby achieving revenues of €5,386.6 million. Furthermore the share of these areas in the group’s total turnover increased once again from 62.5% to 64.6%.

Development in the earthmoving and mining divisions was described as “especially dynamic.” In the In the mining division alone, the group was able to increase its sales revenues by 26.1 % to €1,012 million. In investment terms, the construction machinery and mining equipment area invested a total of €445.9 million, an increase of 29.5%. The bulk of this investment went into the earthmoving division. The new factory in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, for the production of earthmoving machines and their components was opened midway through the year.

In the 2011 business year, the mining division’s investments were recorded separately from those of the earthmoving division and totalled €63.3 million. In Colmar, France, an expansion project commenced for the logistics building of the mining excavator production plant to cover an area of more than 15,000 m². In addition, plans were drawn up to increase the production area to approximately 29,000 m².

The mining equipment division also established new sales and service companies in Colombia and Mozambique. For 2012 Liebherr Group states that it is “maintaining its course for growth” and that increases are realistic in all divisions. The company anticipates an increase in total turnover of the order of 10%.
