The WesTrac Port Hedland team have celebrated the delivery of two new Cat® 6020B hydraulic mining shovels to the Woodie Woodie manganese ore mine site for customer ConsMin (Consolidated Minerals). The Woodie Woodie mine, located in the Pilbara region 400 km south east of Port Hedland, has been supported by fleets of Caterpillar hauling and ancillary equipment for the last 15 years, but these are the first large Cat excavators to be introduced into the project.
Woodie Woodie is owner-operated. The operation consists of open-pit mining across several pits and a 1.6 Mt/y processing plant. The existing fleet includes Cat 785 trucks with standard bodies, 777 trucks with Schlam Hercules and new G&G Mining XMOR bodies plus other excavators including a Hitachi EX2500, Komatsu PC2000 and PC1250 plus several large wheel loaders including Cat 992K and 988K models.
