The Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) announces change of venue and new PERUMIN President

peru-min.jpgIIMP announced that the international PERUMIN – 31st Mining Convention will be held in the city of Arequipa, from September 16 to 20, 2013, and announced Abraham Chahuán Abedrrabo as the new president of the Organizing Committee. “On the request of the people of Arequipa, as well as the obvious interest of national and regional authorities, companies and institutions of said region, once again our event will be held in Arequipa, in September 2013, at the  Cerro Juli Convention Center”, declared Rómulo Mucho Mamani, IIMP President.

The decision made by the IIMP coincides with a recent study carried out by Ipsos Apoyo which reveals that 57% of the inhabitants of Arequipa are in favour of mining investment. “If mining Arequipa is with us, then that is where we will go to present Peru’s mining agenda”, the IIMP President stated.

With regard to the new president of the PERUMIN – 31st Mining Convention Organizing Committee, Abraham Chahuán Abedrrabo, the IIMP President explained that he is an outstanding professional and a member of the institution, who will be responsible for maintaining the high quality level of this mining event. He is a metallurgical engineer who graduated from the National University of San Agustín of Arequipa. He obtained a master’s degree in Metallurgy studies from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and a doctoral degree in Administration, Finance and International Business from the Polytechnic University of Cataluña.

He has more than 30 years of experience in the sector and is currently general manager of Compañía Minera Antamina, a position which he has held since January 2011. He started his professional career with Southern Peru Copper Corp, he worked as General Manager for Compañía Minera Milpo, as President and General Manager for Empresa Siderúrgica del Perú and as General Manager at Acerco, which is part of the Armco Group.

He will succeed Carlos Santa Cruz Bendezú, who has resigned for professional reasons which demand his special attention. The IIMP thanks Santa Cruz for his support and dedication during the time he acted as president of PERUMIN – 31st Mining Convention.

“The Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers continues to work on the organization of PERUMIN – 31st Mining Convention, aimed at maintaining the international standard of its contents and organization», said Mucho. He thanked the IIMP members and all professionals in the sector, as well as the companies, institutions and international delegations that have confirmed their participation in the largest Peruvian mining meeting so far.
