Fluor Corporation announced today that the company has sold its AMECO South America business, which includes assets in Chile and Peru, to STRACON Group, the diversified strategic partner to the mining sector in the Americas. AMECO South America has offices in Santiago, Copiapo and Antofagasta in Chile as well as Lima and Moquegua in Peru. STRACON is majority owned by investment company Ashmore Group.
AMECO has more than 29 years of experience providing comprehensive services that include equipment, operation and maintenance solutions for the mining industry. Likewise, it has a fleet of approximately 1,000 equipment assets used by clients in the sector. AMECO’s South America business is concentrated in Chile, where it serves a client base that includes major copper producers such as Antofagasta Minerals, BHP, Capstone Copper, Codelco and Lumina Copper.

Fluor stated: “This transaction marks the completion of the AMECO divestiture which was a strategic initiative to allow Fluor to focus on its core businesses and capital priorities. Previous AMECO divestitures included company assets in Africa, the Caribbean, Mexico and North America.”
AMECO South America is a provider of integrated mobile equipment services, solutions and rentals that serves ongoing operations and capital projects in the mining industry. The company states: “To better provide service on the mine site, AMECO South America has customised mining services solutions, allowing you to avoid duplicating resources in different areas of the mine by providing a single point of contact to provide all the equipment, operators, support services, and maintenance needed to execute work on the mine site. These services enable mine owners, operators, and other onsite contractors to optimise their resources, lower their costs, and execute projects more efficiently.”
Its Mining Fleet Services includes the equipment used on a mining site, either with or without operators and maintenance. This equipment includes mining trucks, heavy lift cranes, earth moving equipment, dump trucks, excavators, dozers, light towers, boom trucks, generators, and air compressors.
Its Mining Support Services include providing integrated equipment solutions to manage, maintain, and operate auxiliary fleets and specialty mining equipment during mine construction or daily operations. AMECO South America also offers hauling services onsite, moving materials from where it is mined to where it is processed.
