During The Electric Mine 2024, held May 21-23 at Crown Perth, Western Australia, we sat down with eight interviewees from Sandvik, ABB, Epiroc, Komatsu, Hitachi Energy, Cavotec and First Mode. The conversations focused on the industry’s route to net zero, plus the challenges and opportunities that come with mine electrification. Here we sat down with Bernard Norton, Hitachi Energy Country Managing Director for Australia and talked about some of the most pressing industry challenges which are driving electrification in the Australian mining industry. We also looked at some of the key areas to focus on with decarbonisation to achieve the fastest results plus focused specifically on how to overcome the electrification challenges for heavy vehicles such as haul trucks and excavators. Hitachi Energy has huge experience and capability in supplying industry with digital solutions including digital twins so we also looked at this from a mine electrification context.
