During The Electric Mine 2024, held May 21-23 at Crown Perth, Western Australia, we sat down with eight interviewees from Sandvik, ABB, Epiroc, Komatsu, Hitachi Energy, Cavotec and First Mode. The conversations focused on the industry’s route to net zero, plus the challenges and opportunities that come with mine electrification. In this interview, Fabiana Cavalcante, Global Head of Mobile e-Power, ABB Traction, covered how this division is playing an important role in helping mines decarbonise their fleets – both converting existing equipment as well as development of new machines – and we talked through two examples with Nuh Cement and Hitachi Construction Machinery respectively. She also reviewed how has ABB been able to apply expertise and technology from other industries in its offerings for mining fleets; and talks about ABB’s components and technologies for mining fleet electrification.
