During The Electric Mine 2024, held May 21-23 at Crown Perth, Western Australia, we sat down with eight interviewees from Sandvik, ABB, Epiroc, Komatsu, Hitachi Energy, Cavotec and First Mode. The conversations focused on the industry’s route to net zero, plus the challenges and opportunities that come with mine electrification. In this interview, Jan Haak, First Mode VP Business Development, shared some of the progress that First Mode has made in the last year in terms of proving out solutions, customer interest and scalability in its Path to Zero offering, including its Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) retrofit. He also talked about the general market and the gap that its retrofit solutions will play versus ‘new’ battery electric trucks as they are phased in, plus its own Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) retrofit and Hydrogen Fuel Cell EV retrofit options. Finally, we also discussed its now global network of operations and facilities that will deliver on scalability with regard to key components and test work.
