Electric Mine 2024 Turbocharged Interview – Jim Andriotis, Cavotec

InvestMETS' Richard Roberts interviews Cavotec Chief Technology Officer, Jim Andriotis

During The Electric Mine 2024, held May 21-23 at Crown Perth, Western Australia, we sat down with eight interviewees from Sandvik, ABB, Epiroc, Komatsu, Hitachi Energy, Cavotec and First Mode. The conversations focused on the industry’s route to net zero, plus the challenges and opportunities that come with mine electrification. This one saw InvestMETS’ Richard Roberts sit down with Cavotec Chief Technology Officer, Jim Andriotis, talking through its heritage and background, and its innovative electrification, power distribution and automation systems including its turnkey ultra-fast Megawatt Charging System (MCS) that can provide up to 3 MW of continuous power from a single connector and has already been in use in a containerised system with a Tier 1 miner in Australia charging a ultraclass haul truck. They also discuss major drivers in the mining industry towards meaningful progress on electrification implementation for the mobile fleets themselves and the supporting infrastructure.
