Hybrid Shovel Innovation

An interview with Kristina Fierro, Product Manager - Hybrid Shovels, Komatsu Mining Corp.

The P&H 2650CX hybrid shovel is designed to deliver up to a 15% reduction in cost per tonne when compared to large diesel hydraulic excavators –  through a combination of reduced fuel consumption, improved availability, and decreased maintenance and repair costs. Engineered to blend the high productivity of electric mining shovels with the mobility and flexibility of diesel hydraulic excavators, the 2650CX features an articulating hydraulic clamshell attachment to deliver a 65 ton payload, performing four-pass loads of 240-ton trucks with the capability of also loading 400 ton trucks. Switched Reluctance (SR) technology captures the energy naturally regenerated in swing deceleration and hoist lowering.
