Seequent bolsters slope stability analysis capabilities with SLOPE3D launch

Seequent, The Bentley Subsurface Company, has announced the release of SLOPE3D, an advanced slope stability analysis tool that, it says, empowers geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists to design safer slopes.

Building on the capabilities of GeoStudio’s trusted 2D SLOPE/W product, SLOPE3D is an intuitive limit equilibrium solution for analysing rock and soil slopes in mining and civil projects – for example, hillslopes, open-pit mines, and engineered structures such as dams and levees.

Chris Kelln, Director, Technical Solutions for GeoStudio, said, “SLOPE3D combines the most up-to-date research on 3D slope analysis techniques with the capabilities in SLOPE/W, a trusted tool for assessing 2D slope stability for over 30 years, providing a practical approach for capturing slope failure mechanisms for simple to complex geotechnical models.”

Kelln added: “Ensuring the safety and reliability of engineered projects is at the heart of geotechnical engineering. We specifically designed SLOPE3D to empower geotechnical and geological engineers to make confident decisions, improve safety, reduce project risks and costs and ultimately design better infrastructure.”

GeoStudio’s powerful and easy-to-use interface provides a unique modelling and analysis experience, according to the company. Multiple 3D geometries and analyses can be added to a single project and solved simultaneously. Geo-professionals can include SLOPE3D analyses in existing 2D stability projects for efficient results comparison.

SLOPE3D connects directly with Seequent’s geological modelling software, Leapfrog, via Seequent Central, and integrates with GeoStudio’s SEEP3D. This creates a seamless workflow with smooth data exchange and simpler data management to improve project accuracy and outcomes.

Seequent extends cloud capabilities and solutions for mining with Minalytix deal

Bentley Systems’ Seequent business unit has acquired Canadian software company Minalytix, the developer of MX Deposit.

The acquisition, which comes only a month after Seequent’s purchase of Imago Inc, a developer of cloud-based software for the capture and management of geoscientific imagery, extends Seequent’s cloud capabilities and solutions for mining, including greenfield exploration, resource development and mining production, Bentley says. Prior to the transaction, Seequent held a minority shareholding in Minalytix, and its partnership included exclusive global rights to sell MX Deposit.

MX Deposit simplifies and controls how drill hole and other field data is collected, managed, and shared throughout the lifecycle of a deposit, according to the company. Mining exploration teams can configure the solution for various activities, including diamond and percussive drilling, grade control, underground face sampling, metallurgical sampling, stockpile sampling and sampling mill circuits.

“MX Deposit closes gaps in a project’s data collection, streamlines workflow, reduces errors and provides an audit trail to improve data confidence and act as a single source of truth for project data,” Bentley says. “MX Deposit is easy to use and configure and works anywhere online and offline, delivering valuable insights across all mining projects. Real-time collaboration is enabled with live project data.”

Mining companies use MX Deposit, in conjunction with other geophysics and geology data management and modelling tools, to find, develop and manage world-class deposits, and to enable teams to manage risk and make better, more profitable decisions, according to Bentley. Data can, it says, be easily integrated into MX Deposit in order to provide context that delivers more knowledge and better decision making.

Seequent already integrates its Leapfrog, Oasis montaj, Target and Imago solutions with MX Deposit, streamlining processes and increasing efficiency for geologists, engineers and other stakeholders.

“MX Deposit unlocks value from drilling, one of the largest investments for any mining and exploration company, with enduring high-quality data,” it says.

MX Deposit is a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution that auto-scales to meet users’ needs, from small to multi-national companies, according to Bentley. Users can create a customised data management solution within hours to collect and control drill hole and other field data and immediately gain insights across all projects, the company says.

There are no limits on data users can store, with some logging millions of samples and blast holes and tens of thousands of drill holes.

Graham Grant, CEO of Seequent, said: “We’re excited to welcome the Minalytix team to Seequent, following our successful collaboration, to broaden the mining workflow through further cloud capabilities. Drill and sample data are the lifeblood for mining companies when exploring, and MX Deposit naturally aligns with our mining and exploration portfolio, including newly acquired geoscientific imagery platform Imago. We have already done a great job of integrating the software and now we are excited to integrate the team.”

Minalytix Co-founder and CEO David Peres, said: “We’re delighted to join Seequent as it allows us to deliver on our founding mission to impact the mining industry positively. We partnered exclusively with Seequent a couple of years ago as they had earned a reputation as a trusted mining innovator with a global reach. As a result, demand for MX Deposit increased in leaps and bounds. With Seequent’s expertise and support, MX Deposit will be able to reach its full potential.”

Seequent adds to cloud-based geoscience software base with Imago acquisition

Bentley Systems’ Seequent business unit has acquired Imago Inc, a developer of cloud-based software for the capture and management of geoscientific imagery.

The acquisition, which comes only a month after announcing the purchase of Aarhus GeoSoftware, will expand Seequent’s technology solutions portfolio while boosting cloud capabilities to help geoscientists and engineers solve earth, environment and energy challenges, it said.

Imago’s cloud-based platform enables the capture, cataloguing and review of drilling core and chip images from any source, to support every aspect of the geological process from exploration to grade control. Continued development of Imago’s machine learning will lead to a step function in the interpretation of geological data, according to Seequent.

Seequent said: “Mining companies around the world apply Imago’s solution in conjunction with geology data management and modelling tools to enable teams to make more confident, profitable decisions using instantly available, high-quality images. Seequent already integrates its Leapfrog, Oasis montaj, Target, and Minalytix MX Deposit with Imago’s solution, making it easy for geologists, engineers and other stakeholders to extract knowledge and learn from geoscientific imagery. The goal is to unlock significant potential for mining and other industries, transforming image data into meaningful insights for geological activities.”

Imago establishes a consistent process for capturing high-quality images, which integrate with existing workflows and allow the application of machine learning

Graham Grant, CEO of Seequent, said: “It’s an exciting step to welcome the Imago team on board to help advance Seequent’s progression into the cloud. We’re continually exploring ways to provide new technologies and solutions to solve workflow challenges, improve operational efficiency and deliver greater value for our users who are working to solve some of the world’s major civil, environmental, and energy challenges. This acquisition demonstrates Seequent’s continued growth and our commitment to make a positive contribution to the industries we serve globally.”

Imago’s Co-Founder, Federico Arboleda, said: “As a small team in Phoenix and Perth, we’re excited to join forces with Seequent, as this will now allow us to substantially scale Imago’s solutions in mining and other markets. We founded Imago to help mining companies manage the high volume and size of geological images and unlock the great value in this geoscience imagery. Image data is an increasingly important source of data across the geosciences – and can come from potentially any source, including core photos, hyperspectral, aerial photos, drones, and handheld devices. It will become even more important to transform image data into knowledge as automation needs increase.”

Seequent delivers major releases for mining solutions

Seequent says it has launched new releases for its mining solutions Leapfrog® Geo, resource modelling solution Leapfrog® Edge, model management solution Seequent Central and View.

Seequent’s General Manager – Mining and Minerals, Nick Fogarty, said: “Projects are becoming increasingly complex, and organisations are generating a huge amount of geological data to inform important investment and environmental decisions. Seequent’s mining solutions work in harmony to enable an unprecedented level of productivity and collaboration, giving customers’ insights that improve decision making and further reduce risk.”

Seequent Central’s importance as the nexus for managing geological data, across multiple projects and locations, has been recognised with major release upgrades including the Central Data Room bringing all data into one place, the company said.

Leapfrog® Geo 4.5, meanwhile, includes performance improvements designed to smooth day-to-day workflows for users, including informed uploading, simplified editing and exporting, redesigned file structures and intuitive polar nets, Seequent said.

Leapfrog Geo Product Manager, Byron Taylor, said: “Leapfrog Geo is our flagship solution well known for its stability and usability. For this release, we’ve delivered on many minor user requests that collectively add up to major enhancements. Leapfrog Geo is now well positioned to take on board some even more ground-breaking innovations that we have planned for the future.”

A major addition to Leapfrog Edge is the provision of a new Variable Orientation tool (pictured), which locally re-orientates the search and variogram, and features visual search ellipse validation, easy setup and updates, Sequent said.

“We’ve seen rapid industry uptake of Leapfrog Edge since its launch 18 months ago. This release further enhances Edge’s capability to deliver rapid dynamic resource estimates,” Mike Stewart, Seequent’s Technical Domain Expert, said.

Major advances for Seequent Central include a new intuitive web interface and Central Data Room that brings all critical project data into one place, according to the company. This allows teams to work together from a “single source of truth”, Seequent said. The Central Data Room allows data from a variety of sources to be uploaded, downloaded and version controlled within the Central Portal.

Seequent’s Central Product Manager, Peter Joynt, said: “Seequent Central is the best way to transfer Leapfrog projects to and from remote sites – its version control for geoscience data is a game changer. Before Central, companies were faced with the basic issue of trying to locate the latest version of a model. To further streamline projects, other types of data frequently used with Central can now be built into dynamic workflows, even if the outputs were generated in packages other than Leapfrog.”

View’s latest updates give teams, stakeholders and decision-makers more time-saving ways to collaborate and interact with their data in a browser to uncover insights, according to the company. The online tool allows all data and communications to be saved to the cloud.

“Users can more easily build a story, capturing an aspect of their 3D geological model and use the embedded note function to ask questions and allow stakeholders to give feedback all in one place,” Amy Gerber, View Product Manager for Seequent, said.

Latest Leapfrog Geo release receives a Smart Refresh

Seequent and acQuire have bolted on a “Smart Refresh” functionality to the latest release of its workflow-based 3D geological modelling tool, Leapfrog Geo 4.3.

Smart Refresh, provided by acQuire’s API acQuireDirect, is implemented in Leapfrog Geo offering a quick and easy way to incorporate changes and additions to geoscientific data.

It greatly improves the speed of updating datasets in Leapfrog Geo by obtaining the latest drilling data from the Geoscientific Information Management (GIM) Suite database without the need to reload entire contents. This ensures users of Leapfrog Geo 4.3 and GIM Suite database can rely on the most up to date data, cuttting risk in decision making, according to the two companies.

Nick Fogarty, Seequent’s General Manager of Mining and Minerals, said: “Working with outdated data presents a considerable business risk. Leapfrog Geo’s dynamic updating feature has helped to ensure users can quickly make the most of the latest data. Now in collaboration with acQuire, we’re able to introduce the Smart Refresh feature to significantly improve the existing workflow.”

Smart Refresh only updates drill holes or point samples changed in GIM Suite since the last time a dataset was extracted, rather than the entire dataset. With this, users have a more efficient way of working with their data between the two solutions.

Steve Mundell, Director of Product for acQuire, said: “We love to work with complementary technologies for the benefit of a greater customer experience and part of that experience is users performing analysis and interpretation having the most up-to-date data. Our commitment to software connectivity helps users leverage their data at any stage of the data lifecycle.”

Seequent is a developer of data visualisation software and collaborative technologies including 3D geological modelling, while acquire is a GIM software provider.
