Parker Hannifin ups the power ante with new permanent magnet AC motors

Parker Hannifin, a leader in motion and control technologies, has announced the expansion of its Global Vehicle Motor (GVM) high-power, permanent magnet AC motors (PMACs) family. The new extension includes two larger sizes, significantly increasing the power range up to 351 kW (850 kW peak) for a limited weight of 230 kg.

The GVM310 motor now features additional 300 and 400 lamination stack lengths, delivering enhanced power density and high efficiency, Parker Hannifin says. This makes it an ideal traction solution for both on-road and off-road commercial electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles, covering a wide range of applications including construction, material handling, forestry and mining vehicles, the company says.

“The extended GVM motor range provides several key benefits,” Parker Hannifin says. “It offers high efficiency, with one of the best power-to-weight ratios and efficiency levels in the industry, ensuring optimal performance and energy savings. The GVM310 is also designed for high reliability, guaranteeing long-term performance and reduced maintenance costs even in harsh operating conditions.

“Additionally, it delivers elevated power density with a compact design and reduced footprint, making it suitable for space-constrained applications. The motor can adapt to various battery voltages, enhancing its versatility for different vehicle platforms. Furthermore, it integrates seamlessly with standard transfer case, because of its limited diameter.”

On top of traction applications where it can also be used as a high efficiency generator, it is available with SAE-D interface for direct pump mounting, to be part of an electro-hydraulic pumps.

Bruno Jouffrey, Mobile Market Manager, Parker Hannifin, said: “By extending our power range while ensuring high efficiency and reliability, we are meeting the growing demand for electrification in mobile applications and supporting the industry’s transition to more sustainable solutions.”

Parker Hannifin increases valve modularity with launch of VA Series LS solution

Parker Hannifin, a leader in motion and control technologies, is announcing a set of next-generation pre-compensated load sensing (LS) valves, as part of the VA Series, designed specifically for highly demanding mobile machinery applications.

The performance of the VA Series mobile directional control valves ensures outstanding manoeuvrability and robustness, as well as allowing greater flexibility and modularity, the company says. These valves are designed and prepared to meet future demands within a range of challenging industries, such as forestry, construction, mining and material handling.

The VA Series is based on Parker’s existing L90LS and K220LS valves that are, Parker says, renowned for their robustness, controllability and flexibility.

“These next-generation pre-compensated LS valves have been substantially improved to increase modularity and to allow customer efficient solutions,” Parker said. “For example, these valves have been designed with a focus on reducing space claim and enhancing mounting possibilities, while also optimising channels to minimise flow losses.”

With a maximum flow to work port of up to 450 litres per minute, the VA Series follows in the footsteps of the K220LS valve and takes the performance to the next level, according to the company. The VA Series has been designed and optimised with features such as on-board electronics and readiness for Industry 4.0 or any other future demands regarding IoT and diagnostics.

In addition to this, the new valve series also incorporates latest hydraulic features – proportional counter pressure with active refill, warm-up possibilities, plus several other performance-enhancing improvements that herald the dawn of the next generation in mobile directional control valves, Parker said.

The VA300 is the first valve of the new series to be released. The next valve in the series, VA450, is set to be launched at the start of 2023.

The company concluded: “With the VA Series, Parker continues to deliver high-end solutions with function adapted spools and seamless integration of function manifolds specially designed for specific customer needs. With focus on sustainability and energy efficiency from raw material to finished product reducing the total environmental footprint, the VA Series remains true to Parker’s goal of engineering for a better tomorrow.”
