Alkane boosts Tomingley UG mining fleet with Sandvik, Epiroc, Cat and Volvo equipment

Alkane Resources is rolling out a A$16 million ($11.8 million) upgrade of its underground mining equipment fleet to support the development of the Tomingley Gold Extension project in New South Wales, Australia.

Alkane’s Tomingley Gold Operations (TGO) recently received a new Sandvik DL432i production drill, a fully-mechanised, highly versatile and compact electro-hydraulic top hammer longhole drill, to replace an older model drill, it said.

TGO, which recently replaced three of its Cat 2900 loaders, will also soon be receiving four new Epiroc MT65 trucks (65 t payload), four Volvo integrated tool carriers, as well as a Cat 140M grader and a new development jumbo drill.

TGO General Manager, Jason Hughes, said: “Our original underground second hand fleet has done a great job getting the project started with a very low capital outlay for what was a planned three-year mine life. Now, with an extended underground mine life out until at least 2026, it’s time to replace it with a new modern fleet.

“By committing A$16 million to a new fleet, we will be ensuring TGO will be an efficient and productive mining operation well into the future.”

The mine produced 56,958 oz of gold in the 12 months to June 30, 2021, with plans for it to produce 55,000-60,000 oz in the 12 months to June 30, 2022.

EMS Brüel & Kjaer adds ground vibration monitoring to Sentinel environmental instruments

EMS Brüel & Kjaer has announced the addition of ground vibration monitoring to its Sentinel On Demand environment monitoring service.

Using EMS’s vibration monitoring terminal, users can use the short-term monitoring service to protect construction sites, or mines, from structural damage, assess human comfort around rail projects and ensure correct operation of hospital MRI and other industrial imaging equipment, according to the company.

Sentinel On Demand has been operating for four years with noise and meteorological monitoring instrumentation, according to EMS. “Now customers will also be able to select ground vibration monitoring when they order the service over the web,” the company said.

David Currie, Product Manager for Sentinel said: “Sentinel On Demand is proving popular with noise consultants and construction where short-term measurements are used for planning purposes. The addition of vibration makes it more compelling.

“Many customers experience the benefits of Sentinel on Demand and go on to contract long-term monitoring projects with improved cost efficiency. Sentinel On Demand users can deploy quickly with the minimum of effort and don’t have to invest in instrumentation that may sit idle after the project completes.”

Alkane to kick off Tomingley UG gold operation with RCT autonomous solution

RCT says it has entered into a project with Alkane Resources to commission autonomous technology at its Tomingley gold operations in New South Wales, Australia.

The work involves installing and commissioning ControlMaster® Guidance Automation on two Caterpillar R2900G LHDs to operate at the company’s underground gold operation at Tomingley, just south of Dubbo.

RCT will also supply a Tele Cabin including operator chair, LCD monitors and laser guard containment control with the option to operate from the mine’s surface via the ControlMaster® Fibre Optic Control Station.

“Guidance Automation removes operators from machine cabs, which improves safety while the technology enables faster tramming speeds and eliminates machine damage from operator errors, thereby significantly reducing unplanned maintenance works,” RCT said.

The technology will be installed by mid-2019 with operator training to be held simultaneously.

Back in September, the Alkane board approved the development of underground mining operations at Tomingley. This would see 93,000 oz of gold recovered over a 40- month development, with development commencing in early 2019 and first ore expected in mid-2019.
