PROK opens specialist facility in Indonesia

PROK, a leader in conveyor equipment manufacturing, has announced the official opening of its specialist facility in Surabaya, Indonesia.

This purpose-built facility reinforces PROK’s commitment to providing industry-leading experience, expertise and service for conveyor equipment to local customers, PROK said.

The Surabaya facility is specifically designed to provide conveyor pulley refurbishment services to mining companies located in Southeast Asia.

One of the key advantages of PROK Surabaya is its strategic location, which enables the global refurbishment and service teams to be in close proximity to major mining operations. This proximity allows for local engineering support, responsive operational and maintenance assistance and round-the-clock service and emergency support.

PROK has a long history in Indonesia, having been a key supplier of conveyor equipment and services to the region for many decades.

PROK General Manager, Wade Guelfi, said the new facility was initiated in partnership with local customers.

“The facility makes sense for our local customers in Indonesia. Our strategy is to be close to our customers and this is another example of this commitment.

“In order to bring this vision to life we worked closely in collaboration with our customers in the region. They were obviously keen and interested as this facility will bring lasting value to their operations. It means they have an OEM on their doorstep to help maximise their conveyor uptime.”

The Surabaya facility boasts a range of conveyor products and services that meet international quality standards, with the capacity to refurbish pulleys weighing up to 20 tons.

PROK Surabaya operations benefit from the support of PROK’s global network of specialist conveyor facilities and production teams based in Australia, the USA, Canada, Chile and Brazil.

PROK idlers set for overland conveyor system at Roy Hill iron ore operation

PROK has been selected by Roy Hill to manufacture and supply the idlers for a new circa-8km overland conveyor system as part of the iron ore mine’s Rom4 expansion in Western Australia.

PROK says it was awarded the contract for the conveyor idlers off the back of a long history of success with various overland conveyor systems across the globe.

Roy Hill requires the new overland conveyor to connect a new crusher to the existing mine infrastructure. The system comprises two overland conveyor systems that are approximately 8 km in length.

The entire project scope for the conveyor components included the manufacture and supply of 23,500 rollers and 6,500 idler frames.

The majority of the rollers will be PROK HDPE, a lightweight composite roller. PROK HDPE was chosen due to its lightweight construction and exceptional reliability, PROK said. The rollers include dual-layer wear indicator technology which facilitates smarter roller maintenance.

PROK General Manager WA, Wade Guelfi, said PROK HDPE will bring a range of benefits to Roy Hill’s operations.

“PROK HDPE is proven in heavy-duty iron ore applications and will assist to reduce maintenance costs, increase production and importantly improve safety outcomes,” he said. “We were thrilled to be able to partner with Roy Hill on this project and look forward to working closely with them to continue to optimise conveyor performance.”

PROK conveyor pulleys to feature at Fortescue’s Iron Bridge magnetite project

Global conveyor components manufacturer PROK has been awarded a major contract for the design, manufacture and supply of conveyor pulleys at the Iron Bridge Magnetite project, a joint venture between Fortescue Metals Group subsidiary FMG Iron Bridge and Formosa Steel IB Pty. Ltd, near Port Hedland in Western Australia.

PROK will produce around 170 complete pulleys from its Bayswater production facility in Perth, Western Australia. The pulleys will be installed across 25 new conveyors at the Iron Bridge site.

PROK says it is an expert in conveyor equipment and specialises in solutions that help mining companies across the globe keep their conveyor systems running efficiently and safely.

PROK General Manager, Wade Guelfi, said the Iron Bridge contract award highlighted PROK’s high level of technical capability and manufacturing experience.

“As a recognised leader in large engineered pulleys, we were a perfect fit for this type of project,” he said. “Our advanced in-house engineering team worked closely with the client to design a pulley solution that meets all project requirements.”

The pulleys range in sizes from 500-1,200 mm diameter and will be delivered in six stages starting in January 2021, the company said.

The contract forms part of Stage 2 of the Iron Bridge project, which involves construction of a large-scale process plant and port infrastructure to support 22 Mt/y (wet) of magnetite production. Stage 1 (pictured), completed successfully, was achieved by building and operating a full-scale pilot plant at the North Star mine site. This pilot project included the use of a dry crushing and grinding circuit, which FMG plans to leverage in stage two.

In FMG’s March quarter results, released late last month, the company said the $2.6 billion project was progressing on schedule and budget, with first concentrate production planned in the first half of calendar year 2022.

“We are excited to be part of this project and proud to be supporting Fortescue with heavy-duty engineered pulleys manufactured right here in Western Australia,” Guelfi added. “We look forward to working closely with FMG as the project progresses.”
