SNC-Lavalin wins EPC contract for effluent plant at new Chuqui smelter

SNC-Lavalin has announced that it has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract by Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile (Codelco), one of the largest copper producers in the world, for the replacement of its effluent treatment plant at the Chuquicamata Copper Smelter, located in the Antofagasta region of northern Chile.

SNC-Lavalin will provide services for detailed engineering, supply of equipment and materials, construction, commissioning and start-up for the new effluent treatment plant. The new installations will replace the existing plant and will bring more efficiency to how effluents from the gas cleaning plant are treated. The project will be centrally managed from SNC-Lavalin’s Santiago (Chile) office, with support from its Montreal (Canada) office for process design, commissioning and start-up services. The project is expected to be fully operational in 21 months.

“This new project award is a testament to our strong abilities and continued presence in Latin America, and Chile in particular,” said José J. Suárez, President, Mining & Metallurgy. “SNC-Lavalin is a long-time partner of Codelco, having worked on many important projects for this client, and we are very proud to continue unlocking additional value through our services and delivering quality work with the highest standards in health and safety.”
