Trimble launches new technology at 2016 Dimensions User Conference

Trimble concluded its 8th International User Conference with more than 4,400 registered attendees representing over 80 countries. Trimble Dimensions was held November 7-9 at The Venetian in Las Vegas and provided insight into how information technology can transform the way professionals work to achieve success.

“Each year, Trimble Dimensions has set new records for attendance—and this year we have done it again,” said Bryn Fosburgh, Trimble Vice President. “Dimensions is truly a celebration of technology—a unique conference focused on how advanced solutions are transforming the way the world works. With its well-deserved reputation as one of the industry’s most comprehensive educational events, Dimensions provides a stimulating and informative experience for industry professionals.”

Trimble’s Civil Engineering and Construction division made several announcements at the event.

Trimble announced a partnership with Engcon that enables Trimble’s GCS900 Grade Control System to be used with Engcon’s tiltrotator excavator attachments, which can result in time and fuel savings for contractors. Trimble and XCMG Excavator Machinery Business Division (XCMG) also announced a commitment to work together to integrate Trimble machine control solutions with XCMG excavators. Integrating Trimble machine control will allow XCMG customers to take advantage of Trimble Connected Site Solutions such as 3D constructible models and as-built data.

Trimble also announced that the GCS900 Grade Control System is now available with xFill technology to sustain Real Time Kinematic (RTK) positions during correction outages. xFill uses Trimble RTX technology, delivered via satellite, to “fill in” for RTK corrections in the event of temporary radio or Internet connection outages. This means contractors can experience fewer interruptions and less machine downtime.

Also at Dimensions, Trimble introduced its DPS900 Machine Control System for Dynamic Compaction, which increases worker safety by eliminating the need for surveyors to work in close proximity to large machines. The number of drops per location and the depth of the hole can be accurately and automatically tracked and recorded using the DPS900 system, which helps reduce errors from the manual reporting method used today.

Trimble has also made improvements to its site positioning systems for small contractors. Trimble SCS900 Site Controller Software has introduced two new capabilities, EZ Level and BaseAnywhere. EZ Level replaces traditional laser transmitters with GNSS or total stations for easy elevation checking when no design is available. BaseAnywhere allows contractors to quickly set up their Trimble SPS585 GNSS Smart Antenna as a base station anywhere on the site, with no survey control necessary. In addition, corrections can now be streamed to the SPS585 using BaseAnywhere and Wi-Fi. No radio is needed, so smaller contractors have a very affordable way to receive GNSS corrections on site.
